Administers and directs program to maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment and to procure or generate all utilities and their distribution systems; coordinates these activities with the other department’s to insure safe and efficient operation; provides liaison with contractors, architects, engineers, and material and equipment suppliers; prepares department budgets; approves orders for equipment and supplies, as authorized; establishes and administers preventive maintenance programs; analyzes costs and work schedules; sets priorities; expedites operations and repairs; inspects buildings and utility systems to determine need of alterations and repairs; approves contracted work; accompanies appropriate State and Local authorities inspecting buildings and utility systems; responsible for department personnel; may participate in and assist with safety, fire control, security, and civil-defense programs and participates in hospital infection control program; performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or progressive experience in supervision and maintenance of buildings and grounds. Ability to analyze, organize, delegate, to make immediate decisions regarding failure of operations, to communicate effectively with supervisors and with people in other hospital departments. Hospital engineering experience required.
