The Sourcing Lead is responsible for leading the sourcing and supplier selection for a group of categories and departments, with a special focus on the Facilities and Engineering categories, including HVAC, Energy, Infrastructure, and Labor.  Additionally, this individual will be responsible for making decisions on the intersection of cost, quality and outcomes, with consideration of impact to departments and patients within the health care system.  

 

This individual negotiates with vendors, and leads the process of award of contractual agreements for the health system.  Prepares all analysis and pertinent information to leadership of the Value Analysis Team, and takes the initiative in the coordination of said meetings.  Heads specific projects related to sourcing and new procedures and initiatives. 

 

The Sourcing Lead works closely with senior Facilities and Engineering stakeholders, as well as other senior employees, and takes an active role in leading engagement, strategy development and execution of new contracts.  Regularly meets with  client areas and supply chain representatives, and implements best practice sourcing strategies for all assigned categories. This individual will be considered the Supply Chain  Subject Matter Expert in the categories of Facilities and Engineering.

 
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Effectively builds relationships and communicates with client departments and assesses needs and supplier performance expectations.   Evaluates department practices, usage and demand; defines client requirements and specifications.   Demonstrates an expert knowledge in the organization’s service and financial standards and incorporates it appropriately.
  • Gathers and interprets supplier and market data through formal and informal processes.  Evaluates supplier capabilities to meet the institution’s needs through fair and thorough techniques, and determines sourcing strategies that optimize value. 
  • Actively reviews supplier effectiveness and makes recommendations for change as necessary.
  • Researches comparator businesses and institutions to support sourcing recommendations.
  • Works with departments to quantify budget impacts of new contracts.   Interprets and analyzes data to present to department heads for review, and to Value Analysis senior leadership. 
  • Partners with client departments to establish efficient ordering routines that incorporate appropriate controls within health system operations.  Takes a lead role in implementing changes in sourcing  (i.e., moving to a new supplier; implementing increased spends/services).
  • Negotiates  contracts, terms and conditions, and ramifications of contractual verbiage as it relates to product/service/supplier and impact on the health system.  Develops contracts that support health system business requirements, including clearly defined goods and services expectations, performance measurements and shortfall remedies.
  • Takes an active role in the creation of new policies and procedures that introduce and drive appropriate supplier behaviors, increase efficiencies in department spending, etc.
  • Discusses automated processes with applicable technology teams. for more efficient supplier interfaces.  Works closely with technology leadership on current processes and new projects for efficient integration of applications in the procurement process.
  • Leads level I, Level II and Senior Sourcing Agents and support staff and may perform in a supervisory capacity
  • Takes a lead role in projects as related to value analysis, including demand, supplier reliability, costs and savings.   Interacts with others in the project team and related departments, and facilitates a successful conclusion.   Demonstrates a high degree of  project management skills that drive project timing, service and savings objectives
  • Maintains currency of health care value analysis trends and market developments, with specific focus on the categories of Facilities and Engineering.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

  • Bachelor's degree (Masters or J.D. preferred)   in a related field  (or equivalent combination of education and applicable sourcing/ purchasing experience).
  • 6 years minimum (higher preferred),  sourcing Facilities/Engineering  services and products, preferably in a health care provider environment, with related technical skills related to contracts, bids, negotiation skills and project management experience.
