Job Description
General Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for the functional testing, repair, maintenance and programming of medical equipment integration for the Electronica Medical Records systems. Functions as the systems IT integration expert for medical equipment, as well as for support of the IEC 80001-1:2010 standard for risk management of IT-networks incorporating medical devices. Manages clinical systems integration projects involving areas of operating systems, system administration, software development, network security and protocol. Provides direct technical support for medical equipment integration problems and liaises with the IS&T department.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Maintains and supports clinical engineering devices equipment, including service hardware and software for IS&T related support
- Provides technical support to staff on operational issues with IT equipment problems
- Provides technical support for OR automation and video systems.
- Provides technical support for clinical alarm management software.
- Supports medical equipment servers.
- Together with IS&T, manages the segmented clinical network
2. Works with management and end users to determines appropriate approach to maintenance and service of technology. Maintains service requirements and service standards.
3. Clinical Systems Maintenance
- Assists with establishing, monitoring, and maintaining software and hardware related to clinical engineering systems not supported by the manufacturer, including ancillary elements of the nurse call platform, ancillary elements of the clinical monitoring system, video systems supporting clinical applications, clinical communications platforms, audiovisual technology used in clinical settings, and systems supporting specific clinical engineering platforms
- Assists with software and hardware installation and replacement
- Supervises and coordinate vendor's biomedical equipment network integration.
4. Supports clinical engineering devices for cybersecurity assessment and patches.
- Works directly with biomedical and clinical engineering teams to patch approved medical devices by the manufacturer.
- Assess the existing medical device inventory to mitigate cybersecurity risk and reports to management for further action.
5. Project Planning
- Works with biomed and clinical engineering to help with new projects that require information technology
6. Solution Development
- Helps with clinical engineering innovation and implementation of new technology and transition of support processes.
7. Takes on call assignments within the department schedule and serves affiliated facilities.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in biomedical engineering or information technology, a related technical field, or a commensurate combination of education and experience is required.
- Three to five years (3-5) of clinical engineering and information technology support experience required which must include three years of technology support experience in health care.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of clinical engineering and information technology technical support.
- Working knowledge of program management, project scheduling, and project estimating.
- Working knowledge of medical equipment regulatory standards plus hospital design and building codes and regulations.
- Working knowledge of information technology for clinical applications, including data storage, redundancy, backups, and recovery.
- Ability to supervise vendor implementation.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication and leadership skills are required
