Identifies funding and oversees the development and progress of special supplemental issues. Coordinates and communicates with Editors, journal staff, and funders to ensure manuscripts are submitted on time, receive timely peer review, are accepted by stated deadlines, and are produced and published on schedule. Will work with the Editor-in-Chief and assigned Associate Editors to ensure agreed-upon processes and procedures are being followed; provides status reports to Editors, staff, and funders; and will assist in the production and finalization of accepted articles. Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Director of Publications to identify topics of special interest to the journal for further development; define the scope of each topic and develop a proposal for grant-seeking/funding. Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Director of Publications to identify funding sources to develop special supplemental issues of the AJPH. Oversees the development and progress of funded special issues. Work closely with Associate Editors, Guest Editors, Funders, Editor-in-Chief, and Deputy Director of Publications to ensure manuscripts are submitted on time, receive timely peer review, are accepted by stated deadlines, and are produced and published on schedule. Define and monitor Supplement project budget and publication timelines, ensuring costs and expenses are within specified limits. Oversee triage, copyediting, and proofreading, production, publication, and printing of accepted manuscripts, assisting in the review of copyediting, proofreading and issue finalization as needed. The position will supervise the Associate Production Editor-Special Publications. Perform other duties as assigned.
BA or higher in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Health or related field. Advanced degree in public health preferred. Proficiency with MS Office and Adobe software products, and use of online submissions systems and databases required; previous use of Editorial Manager software and Atypon software preferred. At least 3-5 years’ experience editing and producing scholarly journals, including oversight of style and format, copyediting, and proofreading. Familiarity with peer-review processes and protocols preferred. At least 2-3 years' experience with progressive responsibility managing projects to successful and timely completion. Highly organized. Ability to manage time and multiple projects effectively and efficiently. Able to manage relationships and diverse sets of personalities and needs. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to work occasional evening and weekend work as job duties or projects require it. Must be able to travel to attend events and other off-site functions when applicable and work occasional evenings and weekend as job duties or projects require it. Requires occasional lifting and moving to 25 lbs.

Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations. Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Mon- Fri. (daytime). Number of openings: 1.
